Landscape Design in Highland Park, TX

Highland Park was planned with landscape in mind. When development began in 1907, about a fifth of the original land was set aside for parks, and Lakeside Park still follows Turtle Creek through the heart of town. Blooming Colors Nursery & Landscape Design brings the same care to private gardens: our in-house designers plan each landscape, and our own installation teams build it.

A longer drive, worth planning for

We are based at 2221 Ira E. Woods Ave in Grapevine, roughly 23 miles from Highland Park Town Hall. That is about a half-hour without traffic and longer at peak times, so it is a longer trip than our neighboring cities. If you can make the trip, our 4-acre garden center lets you see trees, shrubs, fountains and pottery in person before they become part of your plan.

Working with the Town's parkway rules

The Town of Highland Park's tree ordinance treats parkway trees as public trees. Residents may prune and care for the parkway trees beside their property, but removing a parkway tree requires the Town's written approval. Digging trenches or building a drive within 10 feet of a public tree requires a written permit. Overhanging branches must clear 8 feet above sidewalks and 10 feet above most streets. We design walkways, drives, lighting and irrigation runs with those rules in mind, and we confirm current requirements with the Town before work begins.

Planting for Blackland clay

Much of Dallas County sits on Blackland Prairie clays such as Houston Black, which the USDA describes as very slowly permeable and prone to shrinking and cracking when dry. Our Texas Master Certified Nursery Professionals and Proven Winners Certified Gardeners choose plants suited to heavy clay, summer heat and sudden cold snaps. We pair them with efficient irrigation, and we plan drainage with input from our in-house Soil & Water Engineer from Texas A&M.

Outdoor living for established homes

We design and build patios and walkways with Certified Belgard hardscape products, pergolas in wood, steel or aluminum, outdoor kitchens, fireplaces and fire pits, landscape lighting, and custom Desjoyaux concrete pools with pipeless salt water filtration and a 10-year warranty.
