Landscape Design in Flower Mound, TX

Flower Mound is named for a 12.5-acre native prairie hill that early settlers found covered in wildflowers, and the town still values that natural character, from its Cross Timbers oaks to the Grapevine Lake shoreline. For 32 years, Blooming Colors Nursery & Landscape Design has designed and built North Texas landscapes from our garden center in Grapevine, an easy drive from Flower Mound.

Designing around Cross Timbers oaks

Flower Mound sits in the Eastern Cross Timbers, where post oak and blackjack oak are the signature trees. The Town notes that both are slow-growing and poorly suited to urban disturbance, so grading and new paving near them need care, and its tree ordinance (Chapter 94) requires permits to remove many protected trees. We plan patios, custom Desjoyaux concrete pools and irrigation around existing oaks from the first drawing.

Planting for sandy soil and twice-weekly watering

Much of Flower Mound has fine sandy loam soils formed over sandstone, and the Town’s Long-Term Water Conservation Plan limits sprinklers to two days a week, never between 10 am and 6 pm. Our Texas Master Certified Nursery Professionals choose plants proven to handle that, along with summer heat and sudden cold snaps, and we zone sprinkler systems to fit the schedule.

Designing for HOA communities

From Bridlewood’s golf-course setting and Wellington’s established streets to the newer homes of Canyon Falls and the lakefront villas at Lakeside Village, many Flower Mound homes are part of HOAs. We design with your community’s guidelines in mind and can provide plans for HOA review.

Outdoor living near the lake

We design and build patios and walkways with Certified Belgard hardscape products, pergolas in wood, steel or aluminum, outdoor kitchens, fireplaces and fire pits, landscape lighting, and custom Desjoyaux concrete pools with pipe-less filtration (salt water optional) and a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty from Desjoyaux. Our Best in Texas Warranty covers everything we plant and build for one year.

Flower Mound FAQ

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Flower Mound? Often. A tree removal permit is required for specimen and historic trees and for protected trees outside the buildable area. The Town asks residents to check with Environmental Services before removing any tree, and we confirm requirements during design.

Can my landscape work with Flower Mound’s watering schedule? Yes. We choose North Texas-proven plants and plan irrigation for two-day-a-week watering. Restrictions can change with drought conditions, so check the Town’s current rules.

Do you work within Bridlewood, Wellington and other HOA guidelines? Yes. We design with your community’s guidelines in mind and can provide plans for HOA review. Please confirm current requirements with your HOA.
